The House That Connie Built

A few years back I Designed an affordable, modest home and was Owner/Contractor as well! Here are the photos of the construction process and some of the interior photos once we moved in.

During the design process, I was very cognizant of my limited budget and was hoping when the final bid numbers came in that I could still say "affordable". And yes, the budget came in and it was most definitely affordable! I did a little "value engineering" to keep it that way. For instance, I nixed the casement windows and replaced them with single-hung - that saved almost eight grand right there!

So what's it like? It's a single story house with low sloped shingle roof - not flat - pitch is 3/12. It has 2002 square feet of air conditioned space.

As with most Florida homes, it has an open floor plan with the family room, kitchen and dining room all flowing into each other. We have 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, a den/media/exercise room, laundry room, and 2 car garage.

It's not too fancy. No bells and whistles to blow the budget, but very functional and comfortable. I love it!

Truly, designing and building my own home has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever had. (Besides giving birth to my three wonderful children.)
